In a bustling Asian community where young people often feel trapped by circumstances, a small group of believers began to dream. They imagined a place where youth, many carrying hardships and few opportunities, could come to learn, grow, and discover the hope that God has for them.
In 2024, that dream became a reality. The doors to the Youth Development Student Centre were opened. It became a place where young people could pursue their own dreams while being built up in Christ-like character, integrity and hope.
“I feel that I’ve grown in my relationship with Jesus through this course. He encouraged me to complete it well. Now I dream of starting my own business and teaching others one day.”
The early days were simple: one small English conversation class, and the launch of a brand‑new bakery training course. God was already at work.
One student soon was confidently preparing pastries and cheesecakes, discovering not just new skills, but a sense of purpose. They shared, “I feel that I’ve grown in my relationship with Jesus through this course. He encouraged me to complete it well. Now I dream of starting my own business and teaching others one day.”
Another student, already working part‑time in a café, found something different here. “This course is better than the one I took before,” they said, “My teacher mentors me like a father. When we faced conflict, we learned to pray, forgive, and restore our relationships. My faith has deepened.”
What started as a trial phase has become a place of transformative education. Young people now gather to practise English, discover practical skills, find community, build confidence, and experience the love of Christ in everyday moments. They are engaged in personal development and holistic support.
But the vision has never been limited to a single classroom.
The team dreams of a future where the centre will expand:
- A long-term building for the students which will widen serving opportunities
- Expanded vocational classes in IT, trades, sewing, first aid, and more
- A welcoming café, spaces for mentoring, counselling, music, arts, and sports
- Opportunities for local employment
- Internships and partnerships with businesses, giving youth real pathways to sustainable futures.
The centre’s story is still being written. Every chapter invites new hands, new hearts, and new companions on the journey.
You can join in by:
Praying: for wisdom in developing curriculums, unity among the team, new teachers, and God’s continued leading as the centre grows.
Giving: to cover rent, learning materials, scholarships for students, salaries for local staff, and the future dream of a dedicated building.
Going: whether for a few weeks or a couple of years, skilled volunteers in English, bakery, IT, trades, business, arts, business as mission, or administration can have a profound impact. The centre welcomes the expertise of designers, architects, and other business-minded people to help with the future of this project.
