A future rewoven

March 25, 2026

At just 15, Amala* is already stitching together a new future. Introduced to a tailoring program through her sister’s school, she arrived seeking stability and hope and found far more. Today, Amala is running a small sewing business from her home, growing in confidence, independence and joy. Read Amala’s full story here.

“Amala has found something she has rarely experienced: a safe, peaceful place to come to each day.”

At just 15 years old, Amala is already learning what it means to rebuild her future.

Her home sits close to one of our schools, and it was her younger sister’s teachers who first told her about our tailoring training program. Their gentle encouragement, and her own desire for something more, brought her through our doors.

When she joined, Amala longed for stability, confidence and a way to support herself. Today, she has learned far more than how to sew. She can now make dresses, sari blouses, salwar kameez and even tiny clothes for babies. Her joy in learning has grown so much that she has started a small sewing business from her home. One of our staff helped her find a sewing machine and Amala is already taking orders of her own.

But perhaps even more important than job skills, Amala has found something she has rarely experienced: a safe, peaceful place to come to each day.

Her community faces significant violence, and the weight of this has touched her young life deeply. At our office, that heavy burden lifts. She laughs and relaxes. She shares stories with her trainer and fellow students. She is becoming more confident, more independent and more hopeful.

Although she completed her education up to grade 7, past trauma has kept her from returning to school. Yet her desire to study further is still strong. Would you join us in praying that she and her family will take steps toward enrolling again? Young women like Amala need every opportunity to flourish.
