SIM NZ Staff Spotlight: Michelle Lobb
February-2025 |

Let’s learn more about who’s in the SIM NZ office! Read here to find out about Michelle, our treasurer!
What do you do at SIM NZ? If you could describe your role in no more than two sentences, what would you tell us?
I look after the finances of our people so they can focus on their ministry areas. Part of the role is liaising with the other SIM offices as the New Zealand treasurer.
Tell us about your journey into global missions.
As a teenager and young adult global missions scared me! I thought it interesting when the role at SIM came up and I was nervous about where God might lead us in this season. I now have a different view of God’s mission and I know that we can fulfill our part in God’s mission from anywhere.
How did you come to work with SIM and how long have you been working for the NZ office?
Our pastor was at a local meeting when Rob (the NZ director) shared a prayer need for someone to fill the donor communications role. Our pastor let me know about the role and I applied for the role. It turned out that the SIM office in Howick was a two minute walk from our house at the time.
I joined SIM at the end of 2019 in the donor communications role and took over the treasurer role in 2023.
What do you enjoy about working for SIM?
The people. It’s amazing being part of a community of people from different backgrounds and knowing that we are united in Christ. It still amazes me when someone rings the office and during the conversation says that they have been praying for me.
What are some of the challenges in your role?
The financial challenges for the office in the last 2 years have required careful management.
Keeping our financial processes up to date with the changing needs of our members and with technological advances to ensure we deliver accurate and up to date information to our members and our Board.
Tell us about your family.
My husband Ashley and I have been married for 15 years, and we have 2 boys, Ayden (11) and Nathan (8). Ashley and I both grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved as a family to New Zealand in 2018.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Some of my favourite things to do are reading, playing board games, going for hikes and spending time in the kitchen, especially baking cakes.
How can we pray for you?
In my role there are times when difficult situations come up, please pray that God will give me discernment and wisdom in those moments.
