Top of the list is the significant, continuing prayer support you will receive. Mission agencies also provide you with the structured support, specialised knowledge, and accountability needed for effective cross-cultural ministry.
Am I ready to be a missionary?
Readiness is less about perfection and more about willingness. If you are active in your local church and willing to learn, you are ready to start the conversation. Connect with a Mission Coach
Do I need a “special” calling?
You don’t necessarily need a dramatic “special call,” but rather a process of discerning a deep desire, passion, and suitability for missions. While all Christians are witnesses, what sets a mission worker apart is that God has indeed called you to this for a season of life or as a vocation. This calling often begins with curiosity, then interest, followed by the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
What are the costs involved?
SIM tailors a budget for each mission worker that includes monthly needs such as living expenses, ministry expenses, health cover and emergency circumstances and exchange rates as well as one-off needs such as travel costs. The level of finances required differs significantly and takes into consideration several key factors:
- Cost of living in chosen location (this varies greatly)
- Family size (single, couple, children, etc.)
- Ministry costs (similar to business cots in the corporate world)
How is the ministry placement determined?
We will work with you and your church to discern the ministry which suits the desire God has placed on your heart, your gifts, skillset and season of life. Whether you’re just finishing school or university, raising a family, navigating an empty nest, or enjoying retirement. We will support, equip and encourage you in your journey and place you alongside others who share your calling.
How does SIM care for its mission workers?
SIM employs a holistic approach to care for its workers, focusing on their spiritual, emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing. Key aspects of SIM’s care for its workers include:
- Financial and logistical support.
- Training and development.
- Pastoral and emotional care.
- Community and debriefing.
- safety and crisis management.
- Family support
Ultimately, SIM views worker care as a collaborative effort between the organisation and the sending church, aiming to ensure people can thrive in their ministry and location.
