100 Hours for 100 years

By prayer
for 100 years

Prayer has always been central to SIM’s story. As SIM New Zealand prepares to celebrate 100 years, we invite you to join us on 15 July for a day of prayer for our people, our partners, and the ministry God has ahead.

Why pray?
Prayer has always carried the work

“By Prayer” has always been more than a motto for SIM. Across our story, prayer has opened doors, protected people, met needs, and sustained ministry at just the right time.

For generations, supporters, churches, prayer groups, and everyday people have faithfully lifted up SIM’s workers and ministry around the world.
A foundation: Prayer is not an add-on to the celebration. It is where we begin.
A shared history: Many have prayed with SIM for years through Together magazine, local prayer groups, and personal relationships.
A simple invitation: Choose a time, pray where you are, and join others across New Zealand.

Focus for July 2026
Praying for Africa: Ethiopia and Nigeria
Historic photo representing the beginnings of SIM and early mission pioneers.
For July, our prayer focus returns to SIM’s roots in Africa, with a special focus on Ethiopia and Nigeria. These countries are deeply connected to SIM’s early story and to the reason Rowland Bingham encouraged New Zealand and Australia to establish local SIM councils in 1926.
This month’s focus: We will centre our prayer on SIM Ethiopia and SIM Nigeria, alongside wider requests from SIM International, the SIM NZ office, and SIM members.
Why these countries: The need for workers in Ethiopia and Nigeria helped prompt Rowland Bingham to encourage New Zealand and Australia to establish local SIM councils in 1926.
What we’ll pray for: Current ministry, open doors, protection, provision, workers on the ground, and the future God is preparing for SIM in these places and beyond.
