SIM NZ staff spotlight: The value of our staff
September-2025 |
Let’s learn more about the value of our home office staff and how to support the New Zealand team (written by Rob Reynolds, SIM New Zealand director):
Value of our staff
I am so blessed to have a great team to work with here in New Zealand. The role and value of the home office staff at SIM NZ are indispensable in supporting mission partners and ensuring the success of global missions. They provide essential services that enable mission partners to focus on their ministry areas without worrying about logistical and administrative challenges. Here are some highlights from the monthly e-newsletter ‘Staff Highlights’ you may have read:
Michelle Lobb, Treasurer
Michelle’s role in managing finances is crucial for the stability of mission partners. She ensures that funds are used effectively, liaises with other SIM offices, and navigates financial challenges. Her work allows mission partners to concentrate on their ministry, knowing that their financial needs are well-managed. The home office’s financial services, including budgeting, donor system management, and compliance with local laws, are vital for maintaining accountability and transparency.
Helen Cowie, Personnel Director
Helen leads a team that recruits, equips, and sends workers into global missions. Her extensive experience and leadership are essential in preparing mission partners for cross-cultural work. The home office provides comprehensive mission partner care, including health care preparation, ongoing support, and transitional advice. Helen’s role ensures that mission partners are well-prepared and supported throughout their journey, addressing challenges such as decreasing mission partner numbers and the need for effective mobilization.
DaNae Reynolds, Global Engagement Mobiliser
DaNae’s work in building relationships with church leaders and supporting candidates is fundamental to the growth of missions. Her role involves mobilising churches and guiding candidates through the preparation process. The home office’s promotion and recruitment efforts, including the ‘Together’ magazine and stakeholder connections, are crucial in connecting people with the SIM vision and opening doors for mission opportunities.
Alan Murray, Visual Media Coordinator
Alan, and his wife Fiona, lead the Communications & Media for SIM NZ. His passion for graphic design and digital media encompasses a desire to support mission partners in telling their stories well. Along with Fiona’s authoring skills, Alan is developing tools for our people in today’s technological world. Their journey into global missions was influenced by a heart for trafficking issues and experiences in Thailand and the Philippines. The home office’s leadership, financial, and administrative support, including the design of the Together magazine and effective communication strategies, enhance the visibility and impact of mission partners.
The home office staff at SIM NZ play a vital role in supporting mission partners through financial management, personnel recruitment, engagement with churches, and effective communication. Their dedication and diverse skills ensure that mission partners are well-equipped, supported, and able to focus on their ministry areas. Their services, including mission partner care, promotion and recruitment, and leadership support, are indispensable in achieving the vision and goals of global missions. Together, they create a community that encourages, supports, and resources mission partners, contributing to the success of global missions.
However, the support for our home office has declined over the years, and this year we are currently running a deficit. This means that we always have unfilled roles as we work to care for our people and work with the church in NZ. Support of our home office enables us to support our partners well. I recently played with some numbers and realized our deficit isn’t an unconquerable obstacle. It would only take all our current givers to give an additional $5 to the NZ home office each month for us to go from a deficit to a surplus! Isn’t that awesome?
Your support is crucial in ensuring that we can continue to provide these essential services and support our mission partners effectively. Please consider contributing to the NZ home office to help us achieve our vision and goals. Together, we can make a difference in the wellbeing of our mission partners and the communities they serve.
