SIM NZ staff spotlight: Andrew
November-2025 |
Let’s learn more about who’s in the SIM NZ office! Read here to find out more about Andrew, involved in Information technology…
What do you do at SIM NZ? If you could describe your role in no more than two sentences, what would you tell us?
I’m work in Information technology support for SIM International and New Zealand, primarily in support of finance software worldwide.
Tell us about your journey into global missions.
I have been involved and interested in missions since I was a child. My supporting church, Whanganui East Baptist sent out many missionaries including my Aunty Jean King and Uncle Bob King with SIM in Ethiopia in the 1960’s.
How did you come to work with SIM and how long have you been working for the NZ office?
I was recruited by Murray Dunn and Bruce Bond to work full-time in the SIM NZ office in 1988. I have been attached to the SIM NZ office since, although I have been working in partnership with NZ and International since 2001.
What do you enjoy about working for SIM?
I enjoy using my skills and the sense of purpose I know in building God’s kingdom. The people I minister with have been absolutely amazing as well.
What are some of the challenges in your role?
Working remotely in NZ has been a challenge. But SIM International has been very responsive to including me in their group over the years. Constantly learning new technological tasks is also a challenge. There is also my attitude to the many ‘material’ things one must constantly put aside for God’s work.
Tell us about your family.
We have five adult kids, three are married. We have two grandchildren. They all live close by.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Reading – usually theology of some sort. Writing – I’m currently thinking through a book on the resurrection in relation to the renewal of power and authority.
Sport – too much! I enjoy going to local club rugby and soccer games. I’m a keen supporter of Liverpool FC and the New Zealand All Blacks.
A lesson you have learnt in life that you would like to share:
Try and concentrate on the situation you are in and be attentive to what is in front of you. That’s all you really have.
How can we pray for you?
I’m coming up to retirement age in a year or so. Please pray for the decisions around this.
