Jars of Clay
It’s time for our annual, mission-wide prayer emphasis, 10 Days of Prayer, which occurs between the Ascension and Pentecost — May 5-14, 2016. Our prayer this year will focus on rest and renewal, using scripture and confessional elements.
Life in mission can be challenging. We face threats of many kinds: terrorism, imprisonment, health issues, fatigue, indifference, or feeling unwelcome in the difficult places to which God is calling us. It can be a struggle not to give up. This year’s Days of Prayer are based upon Paul’s words to the Corinthians about such difficulties, which were realities he faced throughout his life and ministry.
Paul concludes in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
