Cultural immersion programme aids outreach
Every September, a group of missional people from different countries begin their journey through Incredible India, a cultural immersion programme for people interested in experiencing life and ministry in India. During the first three weeks of this mission placement, participants take part in orientation, and find local friends who can act as language helpers. With the aid of their language helper, they learn either Hindi or Urdu. They settle into an “immersion neighbourhood,” chosen for its simple living standards and low level of English. Towards the end of the programme, they have the opportunity to travel and observe a number of different ministries. These range from rural community development, to church planting, to rescuing girls from sex trafficking.
Past participants have discovered that language and cultural immersion is all about relationships. Growing closer to neighbours and friends provides opportunities to share the most important of messages. Mary, a recent participant, believes the experience gave her tools to share Christ with others. During an excursion to a local temple, filled with the idols of gods and goddesses, Mary was able to share with her Hindu friend why she worships only Jesus.
For four months participants in Incredible India absorb all of the experiences they can, looking for opportunities to share their faith, and praying about what their next steps should be.
This year’s Incredible India Four-Month Ministry Exploration starts 1 September. Apply NOW. Quote opportunity #8477.
