Going to Southeast Asia
October-2023

Introducing Cath Drummond, a science researcher with a plan to work alongside youth in a place with little opportunity to have further education.

“After growing up in West Auckland, I spent 10 years working overseas before returning back to New Zealand in 2018. Since then, I’ve been working at the University of Otago in Dunedin where I co-lead a research group in the Department of Pathology, mentor post graduate research students and teach into a few of the undergraduate science and medical courses.

“During this time I’ve also been involved at Dunedin City Baptist Church where I am also a member.

“However, over the past few years God has had me on an incredible journey, leading me back overseas but this time with missions focus. He has been using the incredible views in Dunedin to draw my eyes to the horizon and show me that there’s a world beyond New Zealand where there are people who need to hear the gospel but don’t have the access to it that we take for granted here in New Zealand.

“At the same time he has been showing me first hand just how he can bring transformation to the worst of situations and been challenging me to consider how he has uniquely gifted each of us and wants us to use those gifts well. It is this journey that has cumulated in me to “going”. Next year, I will be leaving my job and heading to Asia where I will be joining a team who are running a youth training academy and are working with young people who have few opportunities. In the first instance my focus will be on teaching English while learning the language and culture, but eventually will be looking at how my background in training research students can add to the number and type of internships currently offered by the academy.”

Pray –  for Cath as she prepares to go and looks for people to support her financially and as prayer partners.
