Both primary healthcare and establishing preventative measures are critical for the communities SIM works with. For example, SIM was at the forefront of the battle against Ebola virus in Liberia – treating the sick and educating communities about ways to avoid spreading it.  SIM is involved with several general hospitals and clinics; Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals train village workers in community-based health care — including awareness and prevention of HIV/AIDS.

In many countries, HIV/AIDS is impacting all aspects of life. This is especially so in Africa where the incidence of HIV/AIDS is up to 35% of the population. HIV/AIDS is also starting to impact many parts of Asia and South America. SIM has specific ministries working in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention or with people afflicted with HIV/AIDS.
